What is Tollan?

The Tollan gate is a reskin of the SG-1 (Basic) gate: same static Milky Way electronics and logic, dressed in a different design.

Its construction is similar to the Pegasus gate, but with a few differences detailed in the steps below — 3D models, LED strips, and firmware.

3D Printed Parts

Tollan uses its own dedicated 3D models — don't reuse the Pegasus or SG-1 STL files, the ring design and mounting points are different.

Hardware Differences

The core circuit and the PCB are exactly the same as the Pegasus and SG-1 models. However, there are two main differences for this build:

  • LED Strips: Tollan only needs two NeoPixel strips instead of three (no glyph ring). Cut them to 36 LEDs for the event horizon and ~44 LEDs for the chevron ring — trim any excess during assembly to fit your printed parts. Full breakdown on the BOM page.
  • Sound Effects: the microSD card uses the same global sound pack as every other gate — it already contains every door's sounds, no Tollan-specific file needed.

🔌 Which PCB — V1, V2 or V3?

This gate can be built either way — separate strips, or one single continuous strip — and all three boards can drive it. The board photo above shows the V1, which is simply the one most builds have used so far — it is not a requirement.

Does anything else change? No. Same ESP32, same DFPlayer Mini, same sound pack, same calibration, same DHD. The only difference is on the Flash a Gate page, where you pick Single LED strip instead of Multiple LED strips. Nothing in the assembly steps below depends on which board you chose.

Firmware & DHD

Tollan runs its own firmware build: the DHD (dial-home-device interface) has a different skin from SG-1's, so make sure to select the Tollan firmware — not SG-1 or Atlantis — when flashing your ESP32.

Everything else — wiring, general assembly — follows the exact same steps as the Pegasus gate!
